Late Night Prayers
I was recently reading in Luke 2 the story about when Jesus was a little boy and he disappeared for three days and they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers. What really stuck out to me in this story was in verse 47 “and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.” I know we are talking about Jesus here and I am sure I would have been amazed as well. The cool part is, I have my very own living example of this. I am always like those teachers, amazed at the understanding of the girls at The Hope House. If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times, these girls never cease to amaze/challenge me…in the best way possible.
A few weeks ago, it was time for the girls to go to bed, side note, I am not sure if you have ever tried getting 59 girls to go to sleep after a dance party, but it is no easy task! Anyways, I was making my rounds, telling each room goodnight, I entered one room and the girls said “Cori, we are going to pray over you” and laid hands on me and prayed. It was one of the sweetest, most sincere prayers that left me in tears. This was not just a one night thing, they continued this for the weeks to come. What I loved most was through their little giggles they would say “God, we are laughing but we are very serious about this, grant her the desires of her heart” I know!!! I am pretty sure we are thinking the same thing, what 12/13/14 year old does that?!
That same night, the house was silent but I noticed that one room still had their light on. It’s a small room with only four girls, three of which are the youngest girls we have living in the Hope House. The fourth girl is a few years older and is the “big sister” of that room. The light was on because their big sister made it a point to do a devotion with her girls before they went to sleep. That night, I saw Jesus in her. I have seen her take these girls under her wing, love them and disciple. It is one of the most beautiful things to watch.
Just like the teachers in Luke 2 were amazed with Jesus and his understand (who would have only been about 12 at the time) I am amazed by these girls. So to you, chicas, thank you for always showing me Jesus.
