And Sometimes You Use Your Feet

The 60 Hope House girls never cease to amaze me! The other day, I noticed some of the girls washing their clothes by hand. They generally wash their own clothes, so no big deal. However, one of the girls had filled a large basin with soap & water, added her clothes, and then jumped in to get the job done right - with her feet! (Google, “I Love Lucy Grape Stomp” for the basic idea.) I was overcome with laughter and had to get this pic.

Later on that night, I began to ponder the days events and thought of our Hope House girls and of course the special young lady who ingeniously discovered a new method for washing her clothes. She did so in response to our current construction project, which will eventually include a new laundry facility with machines. Until then, it’s do whatever you’ve got to do to get the job done. And when you live in a country that teaches their babies how to play soccer before they can walk, using ones feet makes a lot of sense.
God has given each of us unique talents and abilities and experiences that help us navigate life’s little curves. This young lady has inspired me to not just rely on my strengths, but to also be flexible and willing to try new creative ways to get the job done.

We’ll eventually get there, but let’s not forget to laugh along the way and maybe use our feet!

Have a great day, Ashley Richardson
